the sweetest words you can ever hear next to “i love you”

would be… "you passed" :)

Coming from our venerable professor after a frenzied, nonstop 6-day study of Property I almost hugged him in relief. Despite my abysmal lack of knowledge of the LO-BPS-OM relationship in accession, (well, I know enough pero I’m no expert) I finally passed Property! 4 units in the bag! Yes! It was past 9PM and I had been waiting for my turn since 8AM… dying from each hour that passed when I knew what I had read wasn’t enough and will never be enough for a thorough discussion on just one topic. Memorizing (or pretending to) his 41 page outline did not help either, I just grew more aware I had gaps in my studying. But yes, despite my mixing up the facts and doctrines of the Pingol v CA and Titong v CA cases  (and with the help of Sharry’s BPS tutoring that day and my analysis of "Is the Possessor in Bad Faith ever entitled to retention?") I passed! I was torn between being pissed at studying for more than was on the actual exam (all that excess knowledge on easements and usufruct now in my head) and jumping for joy I got a relatively easy topic. Not an easy one but then, pwede na. And thus ended my last final exam for 2nd year 1st sem, purportedly the easiest semester we will have in Law. (Yeah right. If that was easy I am now shaking in my shoes for the semesters ahead)

The end of the semester brings a bittersweet regret that I did not immerse myself in the presence of my (old, approaching senility) professors more. I may never be their student again. I’ll miss Sir Sison despite his never-ending, unreasonable case load and the digests we had to write for hours. He really is brilliant in Torts and Justinian. :) (Incidentally, pre-orals we saw him and he gave me and Miles lansones "So we will have strength". Aww! Ang bait niya!) I’ll miss Sir Labitag and his gold mine of facts and trivia about anything and everything… Now there’s someone who appreciates that tulips never really originated from Holland but Turkey! Isn’t it a wonder how you can stretch a 2 hour class into 3 and have no qualms about it? Haha! Sir Disini will truly be missed. He still is the best professor anyone could get: with the wit of Leonen, the humor of Te and the softest, kindest heart that only he can lay claim to. I love him to bits! (And yes, he was around to witness we were in queue for Property "confession". hehehe!) Dean Carale had a charm all his own. He was your typical geriatric law prof: apathetic one minute then concerned the next. I appreciated his stories of old Malcolm Hall and old Manila… At least we got a glimpse of what kind of student our great legal luminaries were, not much different from what we are now… blatant scammers that we know the Law. :) Haha! I guess true legal wisdom comes with practice and application.

Grades aren’t out yet. Insurance mid-term grade was expectedly not impressive due to lack of study and interest. I hope I did well enough to reach my GWA requirement or else maghahabol ako next sem. =P

P.S.

Pre-oral exam: we met a cute 4-year-old girl who asked for our names. (And who for the life of me whose name I can’t remember. Started with a C.) Anyway, she even asked who the guy we were talking to earlier was (Cesar) and we teased her that she had a crush on him. Grabe, ang charm ni Cesar ay naappreciate ng little girls! Panalo! :)

Post-oral exam: We went to Quattro and had a couple of beers and dinner (not in that order). During that time we marveled at the fact we were finally free from law school and tried not to speak of Property (with me failing miserably). I love going out with my blockmates and talking about nothing and everything. When I finally got home (thanks to my brother who fetched me from a net shop in Katipunan who had a computer with a Korean Windows toolbar) I couldn’t stop thinking of what I could do with my newfound time… Wala nang case ticklers, outline, reviewer na kaharap… Pwede ko na itabi yung bookstand ko. Hay. How sweet it is, this temporary respite from being a student. =) And then I dreamt of all of it. I guess subconsciously I am still in Law school. Haha!
